One of the oldest buildings in the west, the former Yarraville State School sits on Francis Street and is home to the Yarraville Community Centre.
The first school on this site opened in January 1875 and was called the Yarraville State School. That building, a brick and timber structure designed to accommodate 500 pupils, was sadly destroyed by fire in 1888. This grand building we see today was constructed in 1889. This school was used for almost 100 years, with students and staff moving out of it in the 1970s. The building has undergone a few renovations throughout the years but is a great piece of Inner West history that is still used today.
