Constructed in 1872 to meet with the Colonial Sugar Refinery Company demand for processing the raw materials as finish sugar product would spoil in the transportation via sea. The CSR Sugar Refinery Complex comprises buildings dating from three main periods: 1870s, 1900s and 1910s. What you are seeing here is original five storey bluestone and brick pan house and brick stores face the sugar wharf on the Maribyrnong River.
